This is a mid 19th century (c.1850) walnut davenport desk. The davenport is veneered with well figured walnut with solid walnut carved supports to the writing surface. The writing surface itself has a tan gold tooled leather and lifts to reveal a maple lined interior, consisting of two small drawers (the lower drawer is a dummy front). The writing flap is fitted with a key. The desk is constructed with the normal configuration of four drawers to one side with dummy drawer fronts to the opposing side. Also to the side is a small drawer fitted with a pen tray and inkwell holders. The davenport is in good clean condition with only a few marks and blemishes, commensurate with age and usage.
