Catalogue No. 2057
This is an early 18th century (c.1700) French oak panelled coffer. The coffer is of pannelled construction, having two fielded panels to each end. The front also has two panels that have radiused corners. The coffer stands on stile feet with the top being constructed from two wide oak boards that are 'clamped' at either end. The lid retains it's original blacksmith made hinges and the coffer is fitted internally with a candle box. The coffer is in good clean condition for it 's age with a few splits and bumps commensurate with age and usage. There is an old repair to one of the back hinges and there is very old (inactive) woodworm holes in the top rail of the back. This coffer is full of character and charm.
