OAK LIVERY CUPBOARD c.1720 - £945

Catalogue No. 2228

This is an early 18th century (c.1720 Georgian) oak livery cupboard. The cupboard is of a panelled construction throughout. The top section is fitted with a pair of doors and the top panels having shaped cresting. The doors open to reveal an open space fitted with original oak pegs to the back. Each side also has a double row of hanging pegs across the inside of the top (also fitted with a later hanging rail). Early (medieval) livery cupboards were used to store meat but later ones, as this is, were more commonly used to store clothing - an early form of wardrobe. The lower section has plain panels and stands on stile feet. The cupboard is in good original condition throughout with no damage and only a few bumps and bruises commensurate with age and usage. There are a couple of old repairs to the feet. The cupboard comes in two parts (making it easier for transport) with the top section locating on the base by small tenons.

Internal measurements - W106cm x D42cm x H160cm (from hanging rail)

120 x 50 x 181 cm (W x D x H)

Price: £945.00
