OAK CHEST OF DRAWERS - £695

Catalogue No. 1883

This is a late 17th century/early 18th century (c.1700) oak chest of two small and three long drawers. The chest is of panelled construction having two fielded panels to each end. The drawer fronts have moulded decoration (made from fruitwood) giving the front a panelled appearance. The chest stands on replacement turned bun feet that are appropriate to the age and style of the chest. The drawer fronts retain their original escutcheon plates but have been fitted with replacement drop handles (again appropriate to the original handles). The chest is in good clean condition throughout with only minor bumps and blemishes commensurate with age and usage. The top right hand drawer has an old repaired lock-hole and the rear of one drawer is not original (an old historic alteration and part of the chest's history). One drawer is lined with newspaper (the Oxford City & County Chronicle, dated Saturday April 30th 1842)

97 x 56 x 104 cm (W x D x H)
