Catalogue No. 2227
This is a mid 18th century (c.1760) Georgian mahogany linen press. The linen press is constructed in two sections. The lower section stands on it's original bracket feet and is fitted with one long and two short drawers. The drawers are constructed in oak with mahogany fronts and are fitted with brass swan-neck handles. The upper section is fitted with a pair of fielded panelled doors that open to reveal a useful hanging space. The press would originally have had fitted trays that when slid out would have been supported by the ledgers fitted to the inside of the doors (this is an early feature found on some linen presses). The linen press is of excellent quality and is in good clean condition. The drawers are clean and run well and the doors are fitted with a key. As usual for a piece this age there is the odd blemish and bruise commensurate with age and usage, including a indent and split mark to the rear bottom right hand side of the upper section as shown in photo.
