Catalogue No. 2226
This is a late 18th century (c.1790) Georgian mahogany chest on chest. The chest stands on its original shaped bracket feet with the lower section being fitted with three long drawers. Above these drawers is a brushing slide (brushing slides were used for laying clothes and brushing clothes clean before storage and are an addition found mainly on superior quality chests). The upper section is fitted with three long and two short drawers, surmounted with a moulded dentil cornice. The drawers retain their original brass oval plate handles. The drawer linings are constructed in oak and are very clean. This chest on chest is in very good clean condition throughout with only very minor blemishes, commensurate with age and usage.
