Catalogue No. 1987
This is a mid 18th century (c.1770) Georgian mahogany writing bureau of small proportions. The bureau stands on shaped bracket feet and is fitted with three long and two short drawers. The drawers have replacement brass pierced plate handles. The drawer linings are constructed in oak. The fall opens to reveal a well fitted interior with the normal arrangement of small drawers and pigeon holes, arranged around a central cupboard. There are two secret drawers disguised as leather bound books that can be pushed out from inside the central cupboard. The bureau is constructed from good quality mahogany throughout with only minor marks. The fall has an old impressed mark to the right hand side, commensurate with age and usage.
