Catalogue No. 1921
This is a late 18th century (c.1780) mahogany chest on chest. The chest stands on shaped bracket feet. The lower section is fitted with tree long drawers and the top section is fitted with three long and two short drawers. The drawers are constructed with fine mahogany linings, are fitted with replacement pierced brass handles and are fitted with a key. The top chest section has canted corners that have fluted decoration. The cornice is decorated with a worked moulding incorporating a dentil cut band (this is referred to as dentil moulding because it resembles a row of teeth). This chest on chest is in excellent condition and exhibits a rich warm colour. There are only a couple of old minor repairs to the rails between the drawers, which is commensurate with age and usage.
The width measurement is the widest point (cornice). Top section chest width - 102cm, lower section chest width 106cm
112 x 55 x 181 cm (W x D x H)
