Catalogue No. 1984
This is a mid 18th century (c.1770) Georgian mahogany chest of two short and three long drawers. The chest stands on shaped bracket feet and has canted corners with a fluted moulded decoration. The chest is fitted with a brushing slide (brushing slides were used for cleaning and folding clothes before storing and are a characteristic of superior quality chests). The brushing slide retains it's original green baize surface. The drawer fronts are constructed from good quality solid mahogany and are fitted with brass swan neck handles. The chest is in good condition with only a few minor blemishes, including infills to shrinkage cracks on each side, which is commensurate with age.
