Catalogue No. 2026
This is an early Victorian (c.1840) mahogany bow front chest of drawers. The chest is of 'D' shape (a variation on the usual bowfront shape). The chest stands on turned legs, with the front legs being incorporated into the lower portion of the side pilasters that are turned and decorated with a rope twist design (a design made popular after the battle of Trafalgar, and which remained popular for decades). The chest exhibits a good warm colour and is totally original with only a couple of very minor repairs to the rails, commensurate with age and usage.
