MAHOGANY AND ELM CHEST OF DRAWERS - £495

Catalogue No. 2207

This is a late 18th century (c.1780) mahogany and elm chest of two short and three long drawers. The chest stands on it's original shaped bracket feet. The drawer fronts have a narrow strip of fruitwood banding edged with a boxwood line inlay. The drawers retain their original brass swan neck handles. The drawers are clean and work well. The top of the chest is edged with the same fruitwood and boxwood decoration matching the drawers. The top of the chest is constructed from a single piece of elm. This is original to the piece and as it was made. It is not unusual for some 'country made' chests to be constructed from different timbers, however mahogany and elm is a rare combination. The chest is in good clean condition with only a few minor bumps and bruises commensurate with age and usage. The chest displays a lovely warm and rich colour.
