This is a mid 19th century (c.1865) burr walnut pedestal writing desk of small proportions. The desk stands on plinth bases, that are fitted with recessed castors. The pedestals have three drawers in each, with a further three drawers in the top section, giving the usual arrangement of nine drawers around a central knee-hole. The drawer linings are constructed from mahogany, with the fronts being fitted with turned knob handles. The desk is free standing (finished all the way around) with the rear of the pedestals having recessed walnut panels. The top is fitted with a red leather and gilt tooled writing surface. The desk is in excellent condition throughout with only the odd minor mark and blemish commensurate with age and usage.
